HYDERABAD: The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) might be forced to ultimately come up with a consensus candidate for the Parkal Assembly bypoll with neither BJP nor TRS willing to relinquish the battle in favour of either one of them.

The T-JAC has made it clear that it is in favour of a scenario wherein it is either the BJP or TRS contesting the Parkal seat since competition between these two pro-Telangana parties is only likely to benefit a third party, maybe YSR Congress, in the lone Assembly constituency facing bypolls in the region. However, with neither party paying any heed to the T-JAC’s views in the matter, the alliance might be forced to put forward a name which is acceptable to both BJP and TRS as a consensus candidate.

“We are still saying that there should be one candidate, from either the BJP or TRS. That is our stand. They (the two parties) have to understand that the fight for personal gains can only shatter the very dream of a separate Telangana state. We are still trying to drive the point home but if that yields no results, the search for an alternative route would begin,” said T-JAC chairman, M Kodandaram.

But the chairman refused to say much more about fielding a neutral candidate. “T-JAC is not a political outfit and it is never interested in venturing into electoral politics. But the present situation is something that threatens to shake the very base of the movement. So, we will hold discussions to find a way out,” he said.

While TRS boycotted the meeting convened on Saturday by T-JAC, BJP stormed out midway through the discussion. Sources in TRS said that the party brass was miffed with T-JAC over the latter’s perceived partiality towards BJP even when the saffron party was trying to introduce a communal element in the Telangana movement.

“It was clear from its campaign for the Mahbubnagar bypoll that BJP’s politics is divisive. It wants to keep Muslims out of the Telangana movement and is instilling hatred in the society. The T-JAC could have advised BJP against doing this; instead, it is lending moral support to it by keeping mum,” said a TRS leader.

The saffron party leaders, for their part, are propagating that only a national party of BJP’s stature can realise the dream of a separate Telangana.

“It is obvious that separate statehood can only be achieved by a party that has a strong presence at the national level. People know BJP is the only national party that can bring in a separate Telangana Bill,” said G Kishan Reddy, the BJP state president.

Launching a blistering broadside against the saffron party, TRS’s Shravan Dasoju described the BJP’s move as being akin to blackmail. “It amounts to saying that the separate Telangana state would only be possible if one voted for BJP, that is blackmail,” Dasoju said.

Strongly supporting the creation of a Telangana state, senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Friday took on the Congress for “betraying” the people of the region by going back on its promise.

Moving a private member’s resolution for creation of a separate Telangana state, Mr Javadekar stated that both Telangana and Seemandhra regions could co-exist peacefully and prosper.

“We are providing a blank cheque. Let the government bring the resolution, we will pass it,” Mr Javadekar said while speaking on his resolution.

Mr Javadekar said even home minister P. Chidambaram, in December 2009, had said the process of formation of the state “has begun” but two-and-a- half-years had passed since then.

“Till now the Congress has not been able to make its stand clear,” he said.

He criticised the party for seeking the views of other political parties when they themselves remained silent on the issue.

The BJP leader also ridiculed moves to set up one committee after another when the UPA’s intention on the issue remained unclear.

Mr Javadekar pointed out that over 700 students had committed suicide in the region and there had been a 42-day strike in the region.

“But even then the UPA has failed to take a stand,” he said.

On the need for a Telangana state, he said nine out of ten districts in the region are recognised by the government of India as backward, despite availability of many natural resources, the benefits have failed to reach its people.

“The experience of creation of smaller states has been good as it makes administration smoother and efficient coupled with higher development of the areas,” the BJP leader added.

He said there is merit in the demand for a separate state of Telangana as it serves the cause of geographical continuity, economic viability as well as administrative convenience.

ప్రపంచమంతటా ఎక్కువగా గౌరవాన్ని పొందేది బహుశా వైద్య వృత్తి అనుకుంటా. ప్రతి ఒక్కరి జీవితం లో ఏదో విషమ సమస్యని వైద్య సహాయంతో తీర్చుకోవటం, సదరు డాక్టర్ని కృతఙ్ఞతతో తలచుకోవటం చాలా సాధారణం.

వైద్యవృత్తితో డబ్బునీ గౌరవాన్నీ సంపాదించుకొనే డాక్టర్లని ఎంతో మందిని చూస్తాం. కానీ వైద్య వృత్తితో సేవా ధర్మాన్నీ, అందునా సమాజంలో వున్న అట్టడుగు ప్రజానీకానికి సేవ చేసే వైద్యులని చూడటం చాల ఇన్స్పైరింగ్ విషయం.

ఆస్ట్రేలియాలో వున్న అన్ని రకాలా, ప్రాంతాల ప్రజలకు ప్రాతినిధ్యం వహించేది “ఎస్.బి.ఎస్” బ్రాడ్కాస్టింగ్ సంస్థ. దీన్లో అన్ని ప్రపంచ భాషల్లో వార్తలూ, సినిమాలూ చూడొచ్చు. రేడియో కార్యక్రమాలు వినొచ్చు. ఎస్.బి.ఎస్ తమిళ కార్యక్రమంలో, ఆస్ట్రేలియాలో వుంటూ, ఆస్ట్రేలియా ప్రజానీకానికి సేవ చేసే భారతీయ తమిళ డాక్టరు శ్రీమతి వేదా రంగస్వామి గారిని ఇంటర్వ్యూ చేసారు.

మా కుటుంబానికెంతో సన్నిహితులైన వేద నాకింతవరకూ మంచి స్నేహితురాలిలాగానే తెలుసు. యితే ఆమె ఇంటర్వ్యూ విన్న తర్వాత పదమూడేళ్ళుగా నాకు తెలిసిన వేద వెనక ఇంత కథుందా అని, ఆశ్చర్యమనిపించింది.

ఆస్ట్రేలియాలో ఒకదానికొకటి సంబంధం లేకుండా వుండే రెండు విభిన్న ప్రపంచాలుంటాయనిపిస్తుంది, కొన్నిసార్లు. అన్ని రకాలుగా ఆధునిక వసతులతో హాయిగా కాలం గడిపే శ్వేత జాతీయులొక పక్కనుంటే, తర తరాలుగా వాళ్ళ దాడికి గురై, వ్యక్తిత్వాన్నీ, అస్తిత్వాన్నీ, ఆశలనీ అన్నిటినీ పోగొట్టుకున్న ఎబోరిజీన్లొక వైపు వుంటారు.

ఎబోరిజీన్ల బాగు కొరకు ప్రభుత్వం ఎన్ని సహాయక చర్యలు చేపట్టినా వాళ్ళ పరిస్థితి చాలా దయనీయంగానే వుంటుంది. తాగుడూ, వ్యభిచారమూ, నిరక్షరాస్యతా, వ్యాధులూ, మొదలైన వాటితో అసలు వాళ్ళ జీవన విధానం మామూలు మధ్య తరగతి వాళ్ళూహించలేరు.

ప్రభుత్వం నడిపే ఏ కార్యక్రమం మీదా వాళ్ళకి నమ్మకం వుండదు. ఏ రకంగానూ సహకరించకుండా వాళ్ళని వాళ్ళే హింసించుకుంటూ వుంటారు. మెల్బోర్న్, సిడ్నీ, లాటి మహానగరాలకి అవతల వుండే చిన్న చిన్న పల్లెల్లో, పాఠశాలల్లో పంతుళ్ళుండరు, ఆస్పత్రుల్లో వైద్యులూ వుండరు!

దీని వల్ల సగటు ఎబోరిజీన్ మనిషికి మిగతా మనుషులకు వుండే ఆయుప్రమాణం కంటే దాదాపు పన్నెండేళ్ళు తక్కువ. దీన్ని ఇప్పుడు ప్రభుత్వం చాలా తీవ్రమైన సమస్యగా పరిగణించి Closing the gap అనే కార్యక్రమాన్ని చేపట్టింది. ఇందులో భాగంగా ప్రభుత్వ సహాయంతో చదువుకున్న వైద్య విద్యార్థులు తప్పకుండా ఈ పల్లేల్లో పని చేయాల్సి వుంటుంది.

అంతే కాదు సీనీయర్లైన డాకటర్లని కూడా ఈ పల్లెల్లో వుండమని ప్రోత్సహిస్తుంది. అలాటి కార్యక్రమంలో వేదా రంగస్వామి గారు గత ఇరవై యేడేళ్ళుగా పనిచేస్తున్నారు.

ఆవిడ ఎస్.బి.ఎస్ కార్యక్రమంలో పంచుకున్న విశేషాలు:

శ్రీమతి వేదా రంగస్వామి గారు బెంగుళూరు మెడికల్ కాలేజీలో చదువుకొని, కోలార్ జిల్లా దగ్గరున్న పల్లెల్లో రెండున్నరేళ్ళు పని చేసారు. అక్కడావిడ ఇంటింటికీ తిరిగి విటమిన్ మాత్రలు అందించటం, శిశు సంక్షేమం మొదలైన కార్యక్రమాల్లో పాల్గొనేవారు. 1975 లో మదురై కి చెందిన శ్రీ రంగస్వామి గారిని వివాహమాడి ఆస్ట్రేలియాకి వలస వొచ్చారు. ఇండియాలో పల్లెల్లో అనుభవాల వల్ల పల్లె జనానికి వైద్య సహాయం అందించడం తనకి ప్రొఫెషనల్ గానే కాక ఒక వ్యక్తిగా చాలా తృప్తి నిచ్చిందన్నారావిడ.

ఆ ఉత్సాహంతోనే ఆస్ట్రేలియాకి వొచ్చినప్పుడు ఎబోరిజీన్ హెల్త్ కేర్ లో పని చేయటానికొప్పుకున్నారు. మెల్బోర్న్ కి ఉత్తరంగా దాదాపు రెండు వందల కిలోమీటర్ల దూరంలో వుండే ఒక పల్లెలో దాదాపు ఎనిమిదేళ్ళు పనిచేసారు.

ఆ తర్వాత, అంటే పంతొమ్మిదేళ్ళ క్రితం అడిలైడ్ వచ్చి ఇక్కడ ఎబొరిజీనల్ హెల్త్ కేర్ లో రకరకాల కార్యక్రమాల్లో వైద్య సేవలందిస్తున్నారు.

ప్రస్తుతం వారానికి ఒక్క రోజు ఎబొరిజినల్ మెడికల్ సెంటర్లో, మిగతా నాలుగు రోజులు ఎబొరిజీన్ యూత్ ఎండ్ చిల్డ్రెన్ సెంటర్ లో పని చేస్తారు.

ఎబోరిజీన్ల హెల్త్ కేర్ చాలా దయనీయంగా వుందనీ, ఇంకా ప్రభుత్వం పెద్ద యెత్తున సహాయక చర్యలు చేపట్టక తప్పదనీ అన్నారావిడ. ఆ తెగల్లో ముఖ్యంగా పిల్లలకూ యుక్త వయస్కులకూ చాలా వైద్య సేవలూ, లోక ఙ్ఞానమూ అవసరం. వాళ్ళున్న వాతావరణంలో అవేవీ వాళ్ళకి లభించటం లేదు. అసలు చాలా వరకు యుక్త వయస్కులకి చాలా సమస్యలకి వైద్య సహాయం అందుబాటులో వుంటుందన్న విషయమే తెలియదట!

పల్లె ప్రజానీకానికి వైద్యురాలిగానే కాక, కౌన్సెలర్ గా కూడా వ్యవహరించే ఆవిడ భారతీయులలాగే ఎబోరిజీన్లు పెద్దరికాన్ని ఎక్కువ గౌరవిస్తారనీ, ఇంట్లోనూ, తెగలోనూ పెద్దల మాటకి ఎదురు చెప్పరనీ చెప్పారు..”అందుకే వాళ్ళని బాగా అర్ధం చేసుకొని వాళ్ళతో రిలేట్ కాగలుగుతున్నానేమో”, అన్నారావిడ.

స్వతహాగా ఎబోరిజీన్ తెగల్లోని వాళ్ళు అమాయకులనీ, తనను కుటుంబ సభ్యురాలిగా నమ్మి అన్ని విషయాల్లోనూ సంప్రదిస్తారని చెప్పారు వేదా రంగస్వామి.

“ వృత్తిలో సంపాదించుకోగలిగిన డబ్బూ, పేరూ సంపాదించుకుంటూనే వున్నాను. వాటితో పాటు నా వల్ల నలుగురికి మంచి జరిగిందన్న తృప్తి నాకు ఈ ఎబొరిజీన్ మెడికల్ సెంటర్ లో లభిస్తుంది” అన్నారావిడ.

ఈ ఇంటర్వ్యూ చూసి నేను ఆవిడని అభినందించటానికి ఫోన్ చేసి ఇలా బ్లాగులో రాయబోతున్నట్టు చెప్పాను. చాలా సంతోషించి, తనకు ఇన్నేళ్ళ సర్వీసులో అత్యంత అపురూపమైన అనుభవాన్ని పంచుకున్నారు.

ఆ రోజే ఆవిడ క్లినిక్ కి ఒక పదహరేళ్ళ ఎబోరిజీన్ పడుచు (గర్భిణి) వచ్చింది. ఆవిడ తల్లికి, అమ్మమ్మకీ వైద్యం చేసింది కూడా వేదా గారేనట. “ఆ అమ్మాయి, “మా అమ్మమ్మ నన్ను మీ దగ్గరకెళ్ళమంది” అన్నప్పుడు నాకు కళ్ళల్లో నీళ్ళాగలేదు. వాళ్ళేవరో, నేనెవరో, వాళ్ళ భాష నాకు రాదు, నా భాష వాళ్ళకి తెలీదు. అయినా నా మీద వీళ్ళకెంత నమ్మకం!” అన్నారు నాతో.

కొసమెరుపేమిటంటే, ఆవిడ కూతురు జయ బ్రెండన్ డాక్టరే. ఆస్ట్రేలియన్ డాక్టర్ బ్రెండన్ ని నాలుగేళ్ళ క్రితం వివాహమాడి, మెడిసిన్ పూర్తి కాగానే భర్తతో కలిసి నీల గిరి ప్రాంతంలో పల్లెల్లో రెండేళ్ళు వైద్య సేవలందించింది.

మధ్యలో ఒకసారి అడిలైడ్ వచ్చి, “అక్కడ జనం, నేను చీర కట్టుకోవటంలేదని నా మాట వినటం లేదమ్మా! నాక్కొంచెం చీర కట్టుకోవటం నేర్పించు” అని చీర కట్టుకోవటమూ, తమిళంలో మాట్లాడటమూ నేర్చుకునెళ్ళింది!

త్రిమూర్తులు హస్తిన వెళ్లి వచ్చారు. మరి సంధి కుదిరిందా అంటే... ఆ దాఖలాలైతే కనిపించడం లేదు. ముగ్గురూ కలిసి టిఫిన్‌ చేసినా ఎవరిదారిన వారు ఇళ్లకు వచ్చేశారు. ఉమ్మడిగా మీడియాతో మాట్లాడు తారనుకుంటే అదీ జరగలేదు. చివరకు సోనియా అపాయింట్ మెంటూ దక్కలేదు. ఆపత్కాలంలో పార్టీకి అండగా ఉంటారని అందలమెక్కిస్తే భ్రష్టూ పట్టించిన ఈ అగ్ర నేతలపై అధినేత్రి ఎంత గుస్సాతో ఉన్నారో ఈ పరిణామమే చెబుతున్నది.
