A thought-provoking short movie, thanks for sharing it.

One example of an extended take with no cuts that comes to my mind immediately is in Orson Welle’s Touch of Evil. It is the very first scene in the movie; It goes on for about 4 minutes uncut, starts one one side of Mexican border and ends on the other side. It’s a cinch someone would have done better in the last 50 years.

Not to mention శంకరాభరణం, సాగరసంగమం (సారంగయోలి) వంటి తెలుగు సినిమాలు.
శంకరాభరణవైఁతే, సినిమా అరవమలయాళాలకు డబ్ చేసి పాటలు తెలుగు వుంచారని విన్నా. తిరువనంతపురంలో నాకు దొరికిన ఏకైక తెలుగు పాటల క్యాసెట్ అది.
మనమేమో, శంకర్ శివాజీ తీసాడు, భారతీయుడు తీసాడు అనుకుంటాం…
భారతీయులకు ఫారన్ అభిమానం ఎప్పుడూ వున్నదే…

ఇక నా పనికిమాలిన అభిప్రాయం,
అరవోళ్ళు మనకంటే కొద్దిపాటి ఎక్కువ enterprising అని నాకు down south అనుభవాలలో అనిపించింది. నేను చెప్పేది ముఖ్యంగా వ్యపార సంభందిత విషయాలలో.
ఇక సంగీతానికొస్తే,
అక్కడ సంగీతాన్ని ఎక్కువ పొషించింది అయ్యర్లు, అయ్యంగార్లు; ఇప్పుడు వాళ్లనే ఆర్యన్లు, బయటవారు అని దూషించడం జరుగుతుంది.
దేశంలో ఎక్కడికి వెళ్లనా అదే రొచ్చు, అవే తెమ్మెలు. పోల్చుకోవడం నిరర్థకం, నిష్ప్రయోజకం.

పైన లంకించిన మళైతిరందు పాట మాత్రం మా రూంలో ఎప్పుడూ ఆడుతూనేవుండేది. ఇళయరాజా యొక్క అసలు పాట కూడా చాలా బాగుంటుంది.

@ నాగరాజూ గారు - విలువైన సమాచారం ఇచ్చారు. కృతజ్ఞతలు. నా అరవ సంగీత రూమ్మేట్లు కూడా బాలు గురించి, తెలుగు భాష గురించి, చాలా envious గా మాట్లాడుతుంటే నాకూ ఆశ్చర్యమేసింది. మనవేఁమో వాళ్ళవాళ్లు ఇళయరాజ, రెహమాన్ గొప్పవారనుకుంటాం..

ఎవరు గొప్ప? అని ఆలో’చించడం’లోనే పొరపాటు ఉందనిపిస్తుంది. ఇది అన్న తరువాత - నేను కోయంబత్తూరులో చదువుకుంటున్నప్పుడు ఇలాగే అరవం వాళ్ళను పొగిడితే, నా అరవ (సంగీత) స్నేహితుడు హాశ్చర్యపడ్డాడు. తమిళనాట తెలుగువాళ్ళ గురించి అచ్చం ఇలాగే అనుకుంటారట!! త్యాగరాజు, అన్నమయ్య, ఆళ్వార్లు, బాలు, ఘంటసాల, ఎమ్మెస్. సుబ్బలక్ష్మి… వంటి వారందరి మాతృభాష తెలుగే కదా…!

ఉన్ని కృష్ణన్ వంటి పేర్లను చూసి తమిళం అనుకోవడం సహజం కానీ, గురుడి మాతృభాష (బయిటికి చెప్పుకుంటే) తెలుగే.

Dear Aiyya Saami,Amma Thaaye,Babu,
Babumoshai,Cheta,Anna,Akka,Thammudu,
Thambi,Moley,Beta,Sir,Madam……….

It is shocking to see some peoples’
comments..Are we really so closed minded, has
all our reading and traveling world over
narrowed our thoughts and tolerance?

Being a Tamizh,
Telugu , Bangla, Malayalam ,
Hindi and Sanskrit have all attracted me and i
have learnt to understand these out of pure
appreciation and love for these languages.I am
unable to type in Telugu for my knowledge
might be poor compared to yours and i fear
what i want to say might be misconstrued.

I wish i knew more Bangla to savour Tagore (to
be able to read him in his native tongue instead
of translations),
i wish i knew Malayalam to roll in and out of O
V Vijayan’s stories .Ia m happy i can relish
Premchand’s stories or taste Suryakant Tripati’s
poems in their original flavours.i am blessed to
feel the fire in Sri Sri’s poetry .When he says -
POni POnii Pothey Poni i feel the same spirit
and fervour that is there in Bharathyar’s Acham
illai aCcham illai.O! Equally beautiful is the
lament of a lover when she sings in Bangla -
Bodhu miche Raakh korona korona .
Each language is a gift , it is pure joy and must
be celebrated.
i think one of the gifts of growing up in India
itself, is that we have so many languages to learn
and appreciate.Saying one language is better than
the other sounds as lame as arguing over
colours i.e - Is blue a better colour or green !!!
Imagine saying -look at blue,
up above the sky so blue,
down below grass so green
and stating that Blue is therefore is higher than
Green. hahahahahaha !!! Yes , it seems
ridiculous, doesn’t it ?
There are so many stories, songs , poems, plays
krithis .. such a huge treasure of literature , ideas
,metaphors,thoughts in each language that a 100
lifetimes will leave us only at the brink of this big
ocean.Sometime back in this blog , there was an
article on David Shulman, an Israeli,who has
obtained a doctorate in Tamil and is well versed
in Telugu,Sanskrit,Hebrew,Persian,Yiddish

What have you to say of him ?

i would like to ask you how much of literature
have you truly read in each language to actually
be able to compare it ?i think it is in vain that
you put languages on scales.

We are nobody to compare great souls like
Tyagaiyya and Sivan .i mean just the thought of
it is scary .When Tyagaiyya wails “ETi janmam
(i)di enduku galigenu(y)” , it melts your heart as
does when Sivan cries “Uzh vinai valiyAl en
vAzhvu pAzhaga”.Please do not chain emotions,
do not emprically weigh their spiritual
paths,Please please dayachesi do not make
barriers with languages.

Close your eyes, open your minds and ears and listen to languages French , Italian , Tamil , Telugu
, Hindi, Sanskrit,Kannada, Malayalam,Japanese…. the rest is left to your general knowledge.;p…Each will seem like a ragam in itself .

You have quoted Bharathi, does that not speak
of his broad mindedness.Really, how open are
you ?Can you not embrace all these different
thoughts?When Tyagaiyya salutes “endarO
mahAnubhAvul(a)ndariki vandanamu” , can we
not at least aspire to think in these lines.

Is this is a long forgotten poem that we just
mouth in our school prayer assemblies ?

నా తెలుగుదనానికి గర్వపడుతూనే మీ అభిప్రాయంతో ఏకీభవిస్తున్నాను.ఎన్నిసార్లు త్యాగరాజ ఆరాధనలు, సంగీతసభలకి వెళ్ళినా( నాభర్త హాఫ్ తమిళియన్ కాబట్టే లేండి నేనెళ్ళింది కూడా) ముగ్గురు-నలుగురి కంటే తెలుగు వాళ్ళెప్పుడూ కనిపించలేదు నాకు. మంగళంపల్లి వారు తెలుగాయననే విషయం ఈ మధ్యవరకూ నాకు తెలీదు!

మన సినిమాల్లో మన నేటివిటీ ఉండాలని సత్యజిత్ రే అన్నాడు.
80ల్లో డీడీలో వచ్చిన చాలా ధారావాహికలు అలాగే తీశారు. ప్రస్తుతం కొన్ని తమిళ సినిమాల్ని నేటివిటీ ఆధారంగా తీశారు. కాదల్, వెయిల్, పరుత్తి వీరన్. ఈ మూడూ విజయం సాధించాయి.
వనజను Roger Ebert మెచ్చుకున్నాడు చూశారా.

మాల్గుడీ డేస్ నాకు చాలాఇష్టం అది సీరియల్ గా వచ్చినపుడు నేను చాలాచిన్నదాన్ని టివి లో ఆటైటిల్ మ్యూజిక్ చాలాఇష్టపడేదాన్ని ముందు గీసిన బొమ్మలు వాటిలాగే సీరియల్లో పరిసరాలు మనుషులు ముఖ్యంగా ఆ పిల్లాడు నాకు అప్పట్లో చాలా నచ్చేవి,ఆ కథా,కథనం,పిక్చరైజేషన్ చాలా గొప్పగా వుంటుంది. నాకు ఆ కథలు పూర్తి గాగుర్తుకు లేవు కాని అవి చూసినప్పుడు కలిగినఫీలింగ్ మాత్రం మరచిపోలేను.
అప్పట్లో ‘చెలువి’అని గిరీష్ కర్నడ్ ది ఒక టెలీఫిలిం చూసాను అది నేను ఎప్పటికీ మర్చిపోలేను దాదాపు 12 ఏళ్ళ యిందనుకుంటా ఒక అమ్మాయి చెట్టు గా మరిపోతుంది ఆకథలో ఆచెట్టు ని నరికాక తిరిగి మనిషిగా మారినప్పుడు గాయాలతో విలవిల లాడే ఆమె ని చూస్తే ఎవ్వరూ చెట్ల పై చెయ్యి వేయలేరు అది మీకు దొరికితే ఇక్కడ తప్పక ప్లే చేయండి.

మొదట నాకు క్వెంటిన్ టరంటినో అంటే గొప్ప అభిమానం. అతగాడి ఇంటర్వ్యూల్లో వాంగ్ కార్వాయ్ ని గురించి తెలుసుకుని కొన్ని సిన్మాలు చూశాను. నేను మొదట చూసింది చుంకింగ్ ఎక్స్‌ప్రెస్. చాలా నచ్చింది. ఒకబ్బాయి అమ్మాయి - రెండే పాత్రలుంటాయ్ - అదేం సినిమా? విచిత్రంగా ఉంటుంది. 2046 కూడా చూశాను. Too psychedelic for my taste.

We need good actors who are serious about acting (not money). There will be some good actors in AP, but finding them is a problem. Most of them don’t even try & others are not getting chances. From more than one year I am trying to make a short film. But I could not find out any female artist.

Reason : 1. Commercial actors demanding money, that I cannot afford.
2. Finding newcomers is a problem.

People who are really interested in acting should come forward to participate in Short Films.
For that we can use web as a medium. They can put their videos in web ( so that any one can view).
May be they get chances.

It will help short film makers. Actors can charge (reasonable amount).

Venkat, Do you think it is possible?
