Save Andhra Pradesh from Polavaram - Prof Shivaji Rao
Prof Shivaji Rao, environmental scientist, warns of severe catastrophe downstream of Polavaram due to any dam break and other threats. Also he mentions large number of villages upstream getting adversely affected over and above what is reported by the AP government as affected areas due to backwater effect. The damage is likely to affect about 369 villages. Magnitude of this nature was estimated by the study conducted by Aranyika (Bharath Bhushan, Murali et al 1992, 1994)
.
There are several other dimensions of the Polavaram project that require the work to be stopped immediately.
.
Any approvals given by any department to the Polavaram project are null and void as the designs that are taking shape on ground are totally different from the project report that was the basis of these approvals. The current design of Polavaram project pursued by YS Rajashekar Reddy government is in violation of the decades old ‘interstate agreement’ that referred to entirely different project design
Polavaram design was considered highly faulty, at a later stage, by none other than Dr K L Rao himself
.
Prof Shivaji Rao’s draws attention to several technical and legal dimensions of the controversial dam that threatens to wipe out downstream districts of Andhra Pradesh
.
Bharath Bhushan

.
Polavaram is a Killer Dam, says Prof Sivaji Rao
.
To save the Bhadrachalam’s Most sacred Rama Temple and several tribal villages from submersion by the Polavaram dam which can be made people-friendly by converting it into a barrage the arguments to be advanced by Chattisgarh and Orissa in the Supreme Court are likely to be on the following lines for convincing A.P state to agree for replacement of the Big Dam by a smaller Barrage as previously suggested by Dr. A.N.Khosla, former Governor of Orissa
.
1. The states of Orissa and Chattisgarh consider Dr. K.L.Rao, the former Union Minister for Water Resources as an Eminent authority on irrigation projects like big dams. In the case of Polavaram project he made a frank statement (Indian Express news paper from Vijayawada, dated 30-4-1983) that the Polavaram dam is highly under-designed and hence a prescription for disaster. Dr.K.L..Rao ruled out the possibility of diverting surplus Godavari waters to the Krishna owing to defective designing of the Polavaram project only 1800 ft spillway was provided in the Polavaram project to clear 40 lakh cusecs of flood waters in the Godavari as against 13,000 ft long Dowlaiswaram anicut designed by Sir Arthur Cotton. Even Prakasam barrage was [over Krishna River at Vijayawada] designed to 6,280 ft. long though the flood water would not be more than 12 lakh cusecs, Dr.Rao said
.
It was simple arithmetic to understand that the Polavaram design would not work, he said. In the light of these serous technical comments from a very experienced expert Dr.K.L.Rao, the Orissa and Chattisgarh state Governments demand for a revision of the Polavaram project to ensure safety of people in all the states (more…)

Go boys Go...
An absolutely fitting final living to the expectations of an India vs Pakistan match.
It all started with a bit of sloppy batting, maybe the pressure from the final that too against Pakistan but yeah they survived the scare and put up a decent total on board.
Kudos to Gambhir for the innings today. People didn't talk much about him but he was sizzling. No mighty sixes, a cool innings with neatly crafted boundaries for a beautiful 70 odd runs.
I knew there was a game on when India reached the magic mark which brought the required run rate more than 7 per over.
Pressure is not only on the Indian side but also on the Pakistan side.
It was a good start and early wickets provided by our seam bowlers lifted the spirit of the team too.
Regular wickets kept falling at crucial points, allowing no big partnership. The big scare came only at the end when Misbah came to bat.
He had shown earlier too to India that he isn't to be taken lightly. Hes done it yet again. Kudos to the way he handled the chase single handedly.
But I must say India got a bit lucky to get away at the end. It could have pretty much gone anyway.
I almost thought that the ball for which Misbah fell has reached the boundary.
Almost in tears and my nerves breaking and suddenly I see that Sreesanth takes the catch and throws it in air.
Yes Yes Yes ! I shouted at the top of my lungs and started screaming off the top. The apartment erupted into a unison cry of victory and the fireworks went off.
WOWOWOW! A fitting end to a tournament like this. Its pretty much a tournament for the youth and the young players took India through in great style and character.

Aussies down...
India winning three on a row, beat Aussies and enter the finals against Pakistan.
It was one more super match with India being the underdog but ends up on the top yet again.
Yuvraj Singh the star of the show again with his excellent batting display. Hope he repeats the same against Pakistan.
Dhoni finally does something today and hits a few boundaries and sixes.
Excellent, India had a dream run for the past three matches. Hope it continues.

వార్త ఆదివారం కవర్ స్టోరి- వైవిద్య రాగాల వీణ - తెలంగాణ
వైవిద్య రాగాల వీణ - తెలంగాణ : Cover story of Sunday ‘Vaartha’ (16 September 2007) is an example of plagiarism, sadly that is widespread in Telugu writing. It is a good story. But not done in right way.
The cover story of eight pages (page 12 to 19) is a picturesque tale with photos taken from ‘Spirit of Telangana 2007′ Calendar and TUC website. ‘Vaartha’ cover story has all its pictures - eight pictures on the cover from Utsav.
And eight page story has fifteen more pictures depicting culture and monuments of varied districts of Telangana.
23 pictures altogether are taken from the Utsav website and the photo credits were neatly deleted from these pictures and used in the story. All these are works of several artists both professional and amateur
NO MENTION WAS MADE OF THE SOURCE OF THESE 23 PICTURES THAT MADE THE ‘VAARTHA’ STORY! (more…)

WTF ???
Theres no innovation gong on. No! I am not talking about the new products that are getting introduced. Also the existing products are not getting any better.
The same kind of stuff keeps repeating over and over at 100 different places. Oh I know the common thing that strikes you is the Social Networks.
There are multitude of social networks on the web and they get pushed down the throat of the users. Some people join willingly and some forcedly.
I mean your friends start coaxing oh that one is so good, you should be there. Theres lot of activity there. This one has an open platform, blah blah.
In one moment of weakness you succumb and get an account there and now you are in one more of those hordes of networking websites. And it doesn't stop there.
The spam keeps coming, through whatever means of communication each network has and at the end of that people complain "I don't have a life" :)
Yeah and soon you will see one more it seems from "Y"ou Know Who!
OK here I go and spend my time on Facebook.
